Formed in 1945 and with a background in aviation, Saab’s first model was the 92 introduced in 1949. Saab’s novel mechanicals with front mounted V4 and 3 cylinder engines in a range of models provided cheap, reliable transport with a reputation for toughness and go-anywhere ability. Iconic models include the Sonett sports car, the 95 and 96 sedans and wagons and from the mid 1970s - the famous 900 series.
The 900 Turbo provided genuine performance combined with surefooted handling, safety and practicality. In the 1980s Saab released the larger 9000 series and offered a convertible option on the 900 series.
