Australia’s own - Holden. A subsidiary of the mighty General Motors, Holden has always been regarded by locals as their very own. For the majority of its’ time as manufacturer - Holden was king of local sales, its’ family cars always at or near the top of the sales charts. Through the ‘50s and ‘60s - Holden had more than 50% of the local market - hard to believe today. And though it’s cars were basic and utilitarian for the most part - they suited the Australian ‘no frills’ ethos. They also happened to be about the toughest cars made anywhere in the world - they had to be to cope with Australia’s terrible roads. Well built, solid, reliable and as the 1960s drew to a close - available with a myriad of options including V8s, air-con and power windows to name a few - Holden seemingly had a model, range or optional extra to suit everyone.
