Holden’s unique, way-ahead-of-its’-time Hurricane was a sensation locally when intro’d in 1969. Holden claimed the vehicle was built "to study design trends, propulsion systems and other long range developments". Restored in the 21st century - it was a sensation all over again when toured at cars shows including the 2017 Melbourne Motorclassica.
The GTR-X was the great ‘what if?’ - what if Holden had the cajones to put this beauty into production? Based on LC Torana six sylinder underpinnings - it wasn’t just a dream car and had it been produced, would’ve provided serious local competition to the all conquering Datsun 240Z and English sports cars. That it never happened is one of the great shames in the annals of the Australian car indusrty. For sheer looks - it was one of the best things around in the early 1970s.
