In this gallery we focus on Ford Australia’s best selling Falcon sedans, wagons and upmarket Fairmont. In 1960 Ford Australia started producing right hand drive versions of the new American Falcon, and continued making local variants of the Ford US compact, until the locally designed XA model of 1972. Having been killed off in the US after 1970, the Falcon would continue in Australia right up until 2016. Along the way Ford built some of the greatest Aussie muscle cars of all time with the various GT Falcons that dominated Australian touring car racing in general, and Bathurst in particular. From 1972 Ford offered the locally a two-door hardtop variant that allowed GT buyers to opt for sportier looks.
